As early as the 16th century, the Spanish King Charles V is said to have said that he was the ruler of an empire in which the sun never sets. Since then, the triumph of the largest Romance language has continued unabated.
Spanish is the native language of more than 500 million people, making it the second most widely spoken native language after Chinese and the most widespread world language after English. Spanish is the official language in 21 countries around the world, not just in Spain, but in almost all countries in South America, in Central America, in Mexico and on many islands in the Caribbean. But the Spanish language not only opens up access to a variety of non-European cultures, but is also becoming increasingly important as an international conference and world trade language.
The exposed position of Spanish as a means of communication that connects people and continents makes it a central subject of secondary school education. We do not want to hide the fact that it is not only primarily the great political and economic importance of the Spanish language that makes more and more schoolchildren want to learn Spanish year after year. Many are initially attracted by the diverse and the beautiful sound of the Spanish language. By learning Spanish, students gain direct access to a lot of cultural wealth.
